Leaving the Louvre

Cool view from inside the museum.

I carried a Joby tripod attached to my camera bag and got some good shots with it.

Slaves & Jewels

Michelangelo -- Rebellious Slave. Our first taste of Michelangelo on the trip.

Michelangelo -- Dying Slave
Crown Jewels of French Kings

Venus de Milo

Aphrodite being mobbed by the paparazzi.

Late 2nd Century BC. but discovered in 1820 on Greek island Melos.

French Neoclassicism & Romanticism

Jacques-Louis David -- The Coronation of Emperor Napoleon. The next day we visited Versailles where this painting was originally hung. It was cool connecting what we had seen here with the different places we went throughout our trip.

Jacques-Louis David -- Oath of the Horatii. Along with the Inges painting in my last post, these two David paintings are French Neoclassicism.

Eugéne Delacroix -- Liberty Leading the People. Here is an example of French Romanticism.

The Grand Gallery

Mona Lisa's Room

The room where Mona Lisa is displayed is a madhouse. You've got to get your baseball bat out in order to get in the front and get a good view.
'Mona Lisa' is pretty small, and you can't get very close to it. It's sorta anti-climatic considering there is so much other great art to be seen at the Louvre. Why isn't there bulletproof glass around every painting there?
'The Wedding Feast at Cana' by Veronese. This is on the opposite side of the room from Mona Lisa. Jesus sits in the middle at the party where He turned water into wine.

Winged Victory

Hall leading to the Daru staircase and Winged Victory

Winged Victory of Samothrace

Pretty cool setup for the statue. Atop a staircase with a skylight dome.
